US Open Day 4 Highlights – Tsonga is Down
The major upset of this day was the defeat of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, by Martin Klizan with a game count of 6-4, 1-6, 6-1, and 6-3.
Tsonga had a poor service game which allowed Klizan to break easily, and by looking at the match statistics, Klizan was just a step better in this match.
Klizan played very well in the match, aided with some of Tsonga’s unforced errors and double faults.
Martin Klizan is a 23 year old Slovakian tennis player who plays with his left hand. He’s never went past a second round in a grand slam, where even at his highest he was defeated on the second round. However, he finally advanced onto the third round of the US Open, where he will be facing Jeremy Chardy, the number 32 seed in the tournament.
There was also another upset on the Marcel Granollers V. James Blake match. James Blake played EXTREMELY well on his service game, as his win percentage on 1st serve ended up being 90% when the match ended. James Blake also hit 39 winners while Granollers only hit 11. Can you believe it? 39! James Blake went to the net a lot throughout the match, and he’s won 80% of his net play.
James Blake is 33 years old and is a dad, and I thought that his era ended, but he proved me wrong. He’s still rollin’. James Blake’s highest rank was achieved on 2006, on November 20th, which was number 4. He has 10 singles titles and 6 doubles titles, and has advanced onto the doubles semi-finals in 2009 at Wimbledon. He will be facing Milos Raonic in the third round of the US Open.
The other seeds have safely advanced onto the third round ,where matches will become more interesting and exciting. Roger Federer defeated Bjorn Phau 6-2, 6-3, and 6-2, and now Federer will face Fernando Verdasco in the next round of the US Open.
