This battle will be quite interesting to watch, as both plays are pretty much balanced. However, the major difference between these two are experience. Cilic has more of them.

Both players have caused many upsets throughout their careers, like Nishikori defeating Tsonga in the Australian Open, and Nishikori defeating Djokovic with a love game in the final set at Basel. Marin Cilic has also caused some upsets, such as defeating Andy Murray in the 4th round of the US Open in 2009.

Based on the previous results in this years US Open, I think that there’s going to be a very balanced match between these two players. Cilic has played two full-sets so far in this tournament, while Kei Nishikori has defeated his 1st and 2nd opponent in straight sets.

This will be a very important match, because whoever wins this round will most likely advance onto the quarter finals, because Tsonga has been defeated early by Martin Klizan, and the highest ranked opponent remaining in that block is Jeremy Chardy (US Open number 32 seed).

I’m going to have to go with Marin Cilic in this round, based on his experience and results from the past. But Cilic is not playing well so far, so there is a chance that Nishikori can win, especially because he’s booked as a dark horse. However, there’s one thing that I can tell for sure.

Whoever wins this match will get stronger and more powerful, and I can guarantee that it will be a great experience for both players.
