Kei Nishikori vs Tim Smyczek Prediction

Kei Nishikori states on his Facebook status that he’s feeling the ball well.

Kei Nishikori defeated Guido Andreozzi in the first round of the U.S. Open with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. Andreozzi is an Argentine player who is ranked 222th in the rankings, but showed off a little bit of a fight in the final set, but could not defeat the 17th U.S. Open seed. Kei Nishikori was happy on his win against Andreozzi, and published a post on Facebook that said he left the ball well.  Kei Nishikori never faced a break point on his first round, which is pretty good despite the fact that the final set was 6-4.

Tim Smyczek defeated 30-year-old Bobby Reynolds who is ranked 151st place in the ATP Tour rankings, in the first round of the U.S. Open. Tim Smyczek is ranked 179th place in the world, and the fact that he defeated someone who has a higher ranking than him gives him a slight mental advantage.

I predict the winner of this match as Kei Nishikori (of course), but I can foresight that he may have a bit of problems breaking Tim’s serve. Tim hit 13 service aces on his previous match, and he only had 3 unforced errors. That’s too few! But by looking at the match statistics, Tim never played a volley. I assume that he doesn’t like to be at the net much, or he just never hit a good shot that allowed him to approach the net.

My guess on the game counts are:

  • Set 1 – 6-2
  • Set 2 – 6-4
  • Set 3 – 6-3

Can’t wait until the results!
