US Open – Day 1 Highlights
No major seeds were knocked out on the first round, except for the #22 seed Florian Mayer, who retired against Jack Sock when the game was not looking well for him. (6-3, 6-2, 3-2) Jack Sock is an American 19 year old that has a quite high ranking of 243 for his age. However, his rank is expected to go up a few ranks due to that fact that he has advanced onto the second round of the US Open.
Another minor upset is the loss of Denis Istomin (ranked 33rd place), who was defeated by Jurgen Zopp, who is 1 year younger than Istomin and is ranked 80th place in the ATP rankings. The game count was 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5.
Now, in my previous post, I predicted that Tatsuma Ito will be able to win against Matthew Ebden. I was wrong. Ebden defeated Tatsuma with a game count of 7-6, 6-3, 6-2. I am quite disappointed at the fact that Tatsuma did not win against Ebden, when I truly believed he could.
I was surprised with the match of Mardy Fish vs Go Soeda, because Soeda was pretty equal to Fish, as the first two sets were a tie-breaker. The one major thing that is different about those two players are their serves. Fish’s serves are pretty bad@$$ as Soeda’s serve is not as good. Fish hit a total of 12 service aces(Thats 3 games worth of aces) while Soeda only hit 3. However, Fish’s fastest serve and Soeda’s fastest serve in the match only had a 1mph difference. Fish’s fastest serve was 129MPH while Soeda was 128MPH. However, the aftermath of the match was 7-6, 7-6, 6-3 and Fish advances to the second round of the US Open.
Both Roger Federer and Andy Murray have advanced onto the second round of the US Open without letting both of their opponents take one set from them. Novak Djokovic will be facing Paolo Lorenzi of Italy in Day 2 of the US Open.
That concludes the US Open Day 1 Highlights. Come back tomorrow for Day 2 Highlights!
