My Prediction on Wimbledon 2012
Things that I write on this post are based from my opinions. I will be judging who will win the 2012 Wimbledon, and other matches as well. Let’s debate!
From the last post, these are the most current results as on July 3rd.
Novak Djokovic vs Viktor Troicki – 6-3, 6-1, 6-3
******** will be facing *********
Richard Gasquet vs Florian Mayer –
Roger Federer vs Xavier Malisse – 7-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
Roger Federer will be facing Mikhail Youzhny
Denis Istomic vs Mikhail Youzhny – 3-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, 5-7.
David Ferrer vs Juan Martin Del Potro –
******** will be facing ********
Marin Cilic vs Andy Murray – 5-7, (Postponed at 1-3, second set.)
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Mardy Fish – 4-6, (Postponed at 1-1, second set.)
******** will be facing ********
B. Baker vs Philipp Kohlschreiber –
Now, lets talk about the rest of the 4th round. David Ferrer vs Juan Martin del Potro.
I think that this match will be the most difficult match to foresight the result in this years Wimbledon. Del Potro is a young tennis player, and compared to David Ferrer, there is a 7 year difference in age. (Delpo 23 years old, Ferrer 30 years old.) Del Potro has a big serve, and a pretty good forehand. This is one of the reasons of why Del Potro is a strong player. If Ferrer can’t break Del Potro’s service, then he’s pretty much gone for. I think the winner of the match will be decided by whoever takes the first break, and keeps the next game. A two game difference can really effect the momentum of the game. In the past 4 years, David Ferrer and Del Potro have faced each other 6 times, and both players have won against each other 3 out of the 6 times. Basically, if you take the past matches as a reference, the percentage of each player winning is 50%. Who do I think will win? I would say David Ferrer if the match ends fast, and Del Potro if the match goes on for a while.
Andy Murray vs Marin Cilic
As for Andy Murray vs Marin Cilic, I think that Andy will advance to the quarter finals. One thing that catches my eye; Andy was leading at 3-1 in the second set when Wimbledon decided to postpone the match. Andy’s momentum was ruined by the rain, and if he doesn’t get it back, he will get in trouble.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Mardy Fish
Another difficult match to foresight. These guys are strong, hard hitters. I don’t really know a lot about Mardy Fish (except that he is a strong hitter), so I unfortunately can’t give any opinions on this match.
Lets now talk about the semi-finals.
Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are most likely to advance to the semi-finals of Wimbledon. Who do I think will win? Novak Djokovic. I would like for Federer to win, but in the previous match that Roger played (against Xavier Malisse), he took a medical time out, due to pain in his back. An injury? Roger Federer? Wow. Roger hasn’t really had a serious injury in his career, and the fact that his back hurts near the match with Djokovic means that he will have a very hard time winning. And on top of that, Novak has been playing really well recently, only dropping one set to Radek Stepnak in the 3rd round (As of July 3rd). If Roger’s back doesn’t get any well soon, he will definitely not be able to win against Djokovic.
The OTHER semi-finals
Besides the Novak and Federer block, on the other side of the draws are lots of leveled players. Rafael Nadal was dismissed by Lukas Rosol in the 2nd round of Wimbledon, and there are many players that are in the Top 10 in the other block. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Mardy Fish, David Ferrer, del Potro, and Andy Murray. There are two other players who have been on a roll lately, and they are Philipp Kohlschreiber and B. Baker. I found a really good post on who B. Baker is, and what he achieved, so if you would like to check that out, click here. (Note that the link is not a part of CLN.) And the fact that those two players will be facing each other in the 4th round is a pretty exciting thing. Kohlschreiber recently defeated Nadal at the Gerry Weber open quarter finals, which is a tournament that Nadal entered before the Wimbledon began. To be honest, I don’t know who will win in that round. But whoever wins, the winner will be defeated by sure from either Tsonga or Fish.
I think that the winner of the David Ferrer and del Potro match will advance on to the semi-finals. Which ever wins, the winner will gain some confidence, and will hopefully turn that confidence into a win against Andy Murray.
If my predictions are correct up to here, please award me with a piece of candy. The finals! I predict that Novak Djokovic will be in the finals for sure, and as for the opponent? Something to think about. There is a 12.5% that I will predict the opponent correctly. So here I go. The opponent of Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon finals is going to be… Andy Murray or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Now theres a 25 percent possibility that I am correct. Hurray. To be honest, I can’t even get close to think who will win the semi finals in the other block! The players are just too leveled!
As I said, these are my predictions, and I am sorry if this offends anyone in any way at all.
If you think I’m wrong, leave a comment! I would love to hear from you!
