Match Insights

Roger Federer vs Xavier Malisse

Roger Federer had a problem with his back, and actually took a medical time out to treat it. His feet weren’t moving as well, but still managed to get the first set. One thing that caught my eye when I was watching this match, is that Xavier Malisse fell on the set point on the first set. The reason for the fall was; Malisse put up a chance ball, Federer then does a faint and drops the ball close to the net. Malisse then slipped when he tried to run towards the net, and fell. It looked pretty nasty.

After the first set ended, it started to rain, and the center court roof started to cover the grass court, but Wimbledon decided to not close it after the rain died down a bit. Malisse took the first break in the 3rd set, and both kept their serves after that, resulting in an end of the third set, 6-4.

On the fourth set, Xavier Malisse takes an early break at 1-0. Federer then broke back at 1-2, from a little help from the tennis court. (Irregular bounce) Federer broke Malisse’s serve at 3-2, and the game count became 4-2, Federer leading. On Roger’s service game at 4-2, he ended the game quick with his serve. Malisse kept his service game, and Federer was serving for the match at 5-3. The momentum was with Roger, and with that, he won the 4th round, 7-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

I’m a little bit worried about Roger’s back injury.

It was scary for me. While I was taking treatment back here I was in a lot of pain.

It got better as the match went on

Roger stated at the interview after the match with Xavier Malisse. But I swear, if he goes on like this, he won’t be able to win the finals. Especially if the opponent is Novak.

Lets look forward to the quarter finals!
