While the Big Guys are away…

While all of the big players in the top are playing in Wimbledon, this is a chance for players that are not so high in rankings to win some smaller tournaments. I will be talking about the ATP Milan Finals and ATP Marburg Finals in this post.

Tommy Robredo faced Martin Alund (158th in the world rankings) in the ATP Milan finals, and won in straight sets of 6-3 and 6-0. It was a quick, easy match for Tommy, and he has earned his 11th singles title. He is currently ranked 266th in the World Rankings (soon to change) and his country is Spain. His highest rank was number 5, which he achieved in August 28th, 2006. Congratulations, Tommy!

Here is a video of Tommy Robredo facing Roger Federer in the 2007 French Open.

ATP Marburg

Jan Hajek (ranked 105th in the world rankings) faced A. Haider-Maurer (#163 in the world rankings) and won with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

Jan Hajek reached #71 in the world rankings in 2006, but was not able to go farther. He is only 5 spots away from Lukas Rosol (#100), who recently defeated Rafael Nadal(#2) in Wimbledon. Jan Hajek only won one doubles title in 2007, at Munich when he paired with Levinsky. So, Congratulations Jan Hajek, for winning your first singles title!
