Wimbledon – Day 1 Results

The 2012 Wimbledon has begun! As I said before, I will only be updating MENS tennis, therefore, I will not be posting on woman’s tennis.

The first round to end at the Wimbledon was the match between Ryan Sweeting and Potito Starace. Potito retired on the second set, allowing Ryan Sweeting to advance to the second round with a score of 6-2, 2-0.

Julien Benneteau won against Gilles Muller with a score of 6-2, 7-5, and 7-6.

Richard Gasquet won against Tobias Kamke with a score of 6-2, 6-2, and once again, 6-2.

I was expecting a great match from Novak Djokovic and Juan Carlo Ferrero, but the battle was not much of a challenge for Djokovic. He had some errors, but won against the former number one with a game count of 6-3, 6-3, and 6-1, taking the last game with a service ace.

And the most SHOCKING match was Tomas Berdych vs Ernests Gublis! Ernest Bublis is a Latvian player currently ranked 87th in the world rankings! He won with a score of 7-6, 7-6, 7-6. A total of three tie-breaks! Tomas Berdych was the 6th seed in Wimbledon, and he was won the Wimbledon finals against Federer in 2010. This is indeed a very shocking result. We’ve got to have our eyes on Ernests!

Not only Tomas, but John Isner was defeated by Alejandro Falla on the first round with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 3-6, 7-6, 7-5! Alejandro Falla is currently ranked 73rd in the world rankings, and is a Columbian tennis player. We’ve got to have our eyes on him as well!

Andreas Seppi, the 23rd seed in Wimbledon, was dismissed by Denis Istomin in the first round, who is currently ranked 39th in the world rankings. He won the round with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 8-6.

The match between David Nalbandian and Janko Tipsarevic seemed to be much more of a challenge that the Djokovic and Ferrero match. Tipsarevic took the first set with a game count of 6-4. However, on the second set, both players were fighting hard and resulted in a tie-break. Both players were playing well-calculated tennis, but the one who was able to take the second set was Janko Tipsarevic, taking the tie-break with a score point of 7-4. On the third set, there were some great points, but Nalbandian was not good enough to take a set.. Tipsarevic lead at 5-2 and broke Nalbandian’s service game to advance to the second round.  Total game count – 6-4, 7-6, 6-2.

Meanwhile, James Blake and Michael Llodra both lost the first round.

James Blake lost against Benjamin Becker with a score of 6-7, 7-5, 6-0, 6-4. As for Michael Llodra, he lost against Fabio Fognini with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

Igor Andreev faced O. Golding and won with a score of 1-6, 7-6, 7-6, 7-5.

R. Bemelmans won against Carlos Berlocq with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 3-6, 6-7.

I. Cervantes won against Flavio Cipolla with a full set match of 2-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

J. Janowicz won against Simone Bolelli with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

Roger Federer advances to the second round by defeating Albert Ramos, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.

Fernando Verdasco won against J. Wang with a score of 7-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Florian Mayer defeated Dimitry Tursunov witha score of 7-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Juan Monaco defeated Leonardo Mayer with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.

Gilles Simon faced Paul-Henri Mathieu, but during the match Paul decided to retire, so Verdasco was able to advance to the second round with not much effort with a score of 6-3, 5-4.

Ryan Harrison face Yen-Hsun Lu and won with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4,and 6-2.

Viktor Troicki faced Marcel Granollers and won with a score of 7-5, 7-6, 3-6, 2-6, and 8-6.
